Scopists and proofreaders never pay
An editor’s account is free on every plan, with no seat charge to the reporter who invites them. They keep their profile, their rate sheet and their own record of the work they have handled.

Do scopists and proofreaders pay anything?
No, and there is no seat charge to the reporter who invites them either. An editor who is charged to receive work will simply go back to taking it by email, and the record breaks the moment one person is outside the system.
What counts as an open job on the free plan?
A job you are still working. Completed and cancelled jobs do not count against the three, and nothing is deleted when you reach the limit: you finish a job, and the next one opens.
Is the file gate part of the paid plans?
No. The gate and the access log are on every plan including the free one. They are what the product is; charging for them would mean selling a version of it that should not exist.
Where are the files kept?
On Canadian infrastructure, served only through the app so that the account reading a file is known before anything is sent. If a matter has to be held elsewhere, that is a conversation to have before you sign up rather than after.
What happens to my files if I stop paying?
Your account drops to the free plan. Nothing is deleted; jobs beyond the free limit become read-only, so you can still open a matter and export the record.
